OCT Scans

What is an OCT scan?
OCT, which stands for optical coherence tomography, is an advanced 3D eye scan that provides us with invaluable insights into the inner workings of your eyes. At Evergreen Optometry Clinic in Vancouver, we prioritize your eye health, which is why we include an OCT scan with every adult eye exam at no additional cost*.
How does an OCT scan help my Optometrist examine my eyes?
Often, common eye diseases progress silently, without causing noticeable symptoms until they have reached an advanced stage such as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration. This means that changes in your eye health may be occurring without any noticeable changes in your vision. By incorporating the use of an OCT scan, we aim to detect any changes to your eye health as early as possible.
During an OCT scan, a series of detailed scans are taken of the back of your eye, creating a comprehensive 3D image of vital structures such as the optic nerve, retina, and macula. These 3D scans aid our Optometrists to identify abnormalities and detect eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease.
What happens during an OCT scan?
An OCT scan is very quick, completely painless, and non-invasive. You will be asked to position yourself in front of a machine and the machine will take care of the rest. Best of all, your scan results are saved to your file so we can compare the results of future scans. At Evergreen Optometry Clinic, we use the Optopol REVO FC scanner which boasts capabilities of up to 80,000 scans per second to acquire detailed scans of the back of the eye. See our Technology page to know more.
Is the OCT scan service offered by every Optometry clinic in Vancouver?
Not every clinic has an OCT machine in Vancouver, and of the clinics that do, some may charge additional fees to obtain a scan.
At Evergreen Optometry Clinic the OCT scan is included with every adult eye examination at no additional cost*.
